The Stakes After Trump’s VP Pick

On July 15th, Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that Ohio Senator J.D. Vance would be his VP pick for the 2024 general election. I have a lot of opinions about Senator Vance. J.D. has been an outspoken opponent of American security assistance to Ukraine and was one of the leading forces behind the effort to block the Ukraine aid package this past spring. There has been speculation that Vance was chosen due to his Midwestern upbringing and previous military service (both of which could resonate in battleground states), although we should not ignore the other reason that Trump chose him: Vance was willing to walk back years of harsh anti-Trump comments and humiliate himself for Donald’s approval.
