This Substack often focuses on detailed foreign policy prescriptions and national security strategies around complex geopolitical events. I have written at length about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and what must be done on the battlefield to secure victory for our democratic ally. However, I want to make sure that in all of my writings on the conflict, we never lose sight of the men, women, and children in Ukraine who are suffering every single day.
Ultimately, these people are why it matters.
Since the beginning of the invasion, thousands of Ukrainian children have been forcibly removed by Russia from their families, friends, and homes. I wanted to share this video with you to highlight the story of Sasha, a 13-year-old survivor of Putin’s mass kidnappings. Congress passing the aid bill and getting Ukraine the supplies it needs to rescue the Ukrainians under brutal Russian occupation is of course critical, but we also have a responsibility as American citizens to shine a light on these horrific Russian war crimes. To find out more about these efforts, please visit Bring Kids Back UA and Builders Ukraine. Thank you.
