A Night of Reckoning for Trump and Musk
Voters just sent a clear message, but we must keep up the pressure
Last night’s election results were a resounding rejection of the extremism and influence peddling of Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Across the country, voters showed up to push back against the radical agenda these two have sought to impose—from Congress to state courts.
Take for example the dramatic shift in two special congressional races in Florida. Just five months ago, Republicans carried both districts by more than 30 points. The same was true in the 2022 midterms. Suffice it to say that Florida’s First and Sixth congressional districts aren’t typically competitive. Last night, however, the margin in each election shrank to roughly 14 points—a stunning swing that underscores the backlash building across the country. Even ruby-red districts are not immune to the emerging people-power movement fighting for our democracy.
But the most decisive moment of the night came in Wisconsin, where liberal judge Susan Crawford defeated a MAGA extremist in the pivotal state Supreme Court race. This wasn’t just any judicial contest—it was a referendum on whether Musk’s money and power could buy control of a crucial institution ahead of rulings on abortion and voting rights. Musk and his affiliates spent over $20 million seeking to buy a conservative majority on Wisconsin’s highest court. Voters saw through the manipulation and said no.
